D.A.; Steven Odom's killer was himself murdered

A-19 year-old Mattapan man has been arrested and charged for his role in the 2007 murder of 13-year-old Steven Odom, a crime that stunned the neighborhood. Suffolk County DA Daniel Conley announced Saturday that the teen who allegedly pulled the trigger – Charles Bunch, Jr. – was himself the victim of a homicide in Mattapan 10 days after Odom was killed.  Read more

Milton tragedy funeral moved to Mattapan

The funeral for two sisters and the brother who killed them in their Milton home will be held this morning at 10 a.m. at the Jubilee Christian Church on Blue Hill Ave. in Mattapan. The funeral for Bianca Revelus, 5, Samantha Revelus, 17 and Kerby Revelus, 23, was initially scheduled to be held at the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Roslindale. A curious septuagenarian caller, known to the Reporter but shy about putting her name in the paper, called in this week to question the previous existence of a dry cleaner on Mildred Avenue—where vapors from tetrachloroethylene, a.k.a: perc, were found inside a middle school last month.  Read more

Chemical vapors found at Mildred Ave. Middle School

A trace amount of vapors from the dry cleaning chemical tetrachloroethylene, also known as perc, has been detected at the Mildred Avenue Middle School in Mattapan. The school was completed in 2003 on a handful of formerly industrial sites that were cleaned up and patched together by the city.

Boston Public Schools and the Department of Environmental Protection both agree that the amount detected in air quality tests is not enough to be threat to students, but plans are being made to address the problem before it gets any worse.  Read more
