Police: Bandit may be targeting passengers leaving Red Line

Boston and MBTA Police are stepping up patrols this week and warning the public after a flurry of street robberies targeting women that may be the work of a single, armed bandit. The incidents have all targeted women who were walking home from Red Line stations, including JFK-UMass, Savin Hill, Shawmut and Ashmont.

“We’re concerned about it,” said Captain Richard Sexton, commander of the Area C-11 police district. “It seems like it’s one person right now. We’ve had a few others on the district recently, but there’s definitely a pattern going here along the Red Line.”  Read more

Mattapan Patriots and Mattahunt Winter Sports Program

The Mattapan Patriots will be offering a winter sports programs at the Mattahunt Wheelock Community Center for children who want to develop athletically, skillfully and personally. The program will run from December 7, 2012 to March 29, 2013.

Registration dates are Friday, Nov. 30 and Wednesday, Dec. 5 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Mattahunt.

The program is $40 for non-members and $35 for members. The cost includes team shirts, awards, and end of program appreciation.  Read more

Winter soccer clinic for kids at Mildred Ave. center

The BCYF Mildred Ave. Community Center and Valeo Futbol Academy are starting a winter soccer clinic for young players looking to improve their skills. The clinic will run from Nov. 26 to March 14 at the BCYF Mildred Ave. Community Center, 5 Mildred Ave., Mattapan. Classes will be held Mondays and Thursdays from 5 to 6:30 p.m.  Read more

Holidays Choir Concert in Mattapan Square

Holidays Choir Concert, Mattapan – St. Angela’s Parish, Mattapan will hold its Annual Holiday Concert on Sunday, January 13th, 2013 from 6:30PM until 9:30 PM at St. Angela’s Church on Blue Hill Avenue, Mattapan Square. Proceeds will benefit St. Angela’s Church building repairs and improvement. Boston Votes 2012, By the Numbers

Polls open across the city at 7 a.m. on Tuesday and close at 8 p.m., at which point results for Boston will start to trickle in on City Hall’s website (www.cityofboston.gov).

The Dorchester House Guys and Gals Senior Club meets every Tuesday under the Leadership of Rosemary Gallagher for BINGO starting at 12:30 pm to 3:00 pm. Mattapan now key ground in redistrict maze; Jackson offers new wrinkle for councillors to debate

District 7 Councillor Tito Jackson this week suggested moving most of Mattapan into Rob Consalvo’s District 5 while pushing the boundaries of Councillor Charles Yancey’s District 4 west into Roslindale.

Councillors were expected to debate again at their weekly meeting the redrawing of the boundaries of the city’s nine City Council district seats. The meeting followed a “working session” that was another chapter in the long-running saga of the redistricting process, which is required to occur every 10 years in response to population shifts across the city noted by the US Census.  Read more
