A fire reported around 3:40 a.m. on Saturday at 15 Evelyn St. sent three firefighters to the hospital and did an estimated $500,000 in damage, according to the Boston Fire Department.  Read more

The following remarks at the ‘Healing Our City’ interfaith service were delivered at the South End’s Cathedral of the Holy Cross. The remarks are in the order they were delivered: Mayor Thomas Menino, who rose from his wheelchair to deliver his speech, Gov. Deval Patrick and President Barack Obama. The president later met with Boston Athletic Association volunteers and then left to meet with patients at Massachusetts General Hospital.  Read more

Mattapan United’s Housing Action Group hosted a Housing Information Fair at the Old Mattapan Library on Tues., Feb. 5. The event was a huge success with over 100 participants.  Read more

Man shot to death in Mattapan; one arrested, two sought

The Boston Police Department reports officers responding to a report of gunfire found a man with gunshot wounds at 24 Woodruff Way around 2:35 a.m. Sunday. He was pronounced dead at the scene.  Read more

Three charged with armed holdup in Morton Street parking lot

The Boston Police Department reports arresting two men and a woman on charges they used a sawed-off shotgun to rob a man from his phone and a large amount of cash late Wednesday night in the parking lot of the Walgreens pharmacy at Morton and Norfolk streets in Mattapan.  Read more

Mattapan Square Main Streets clears major hurdle, eyes next steps

Mattapan Square Main Streets recently received a $9,533.19 from Mattapan United and a $3,500 grant from Carney Hospital with a three-year commitment, putting them just over their fundraising goal of $30,000. They are now hoping for an additional $25,000 to provide the organization with a “cushion” for the future.  Read more

The American Association of University Administrators (AAUA) presented Wheelock College with the 2012 John Blackburn Award for its work in revitalizing the Mattahunt Community Center in Mattapan.

The center was closed in 2010, but the city of Boston and Wheelock worked in close partnership with the Mattapan community to set a collaborative vision for the center.  Read more
