District 7 Councillor Tito Jackson this week suggested moving most of Mattapan into Rob Consalvo’s District 5 while pushing the boundaries of Councillor Charles Yancey’s District 4 west into Roslindale.
Councillors were expected to debate again at their weekly meeting the redrawing of the boundaries of the city’s nine City Council district seats. The meeting followed a “working session” that was another chapter in the long-running saga of the redistricting process, which is required to occur every 10 years in response to population shifts across the city noted by the US Census. Holding slim leads in a pair of new polls and coming off a campaign rally Saturday with Gov. Deval Patrick, U.S. Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren planned to tout support from small businesses Monday morning at an event Cedar Groves Gardens in Dorchester.
Warren was at the Adams Street business to promote “hundreds” of small businesses supporting her campaign to unseat Brown, who says Warren would support a raft of job-crushing taxes. Brown’s lone campaign event Monday was a 9:30 a.m. “Thank You for Building This” stop at Auto Service and Tire, 1590 Blue Hill Avenue in Mattapan. Read more

Exactly two years after its groundbreaking, the new Mattapan Community Health Center celebrated its grand opening and ribbon cutting on Monday, September 10. Elected officials, residents, and other supporters gathered at the center’s new home at 1575 Blue Hill Ave. to mark the occasion.
The four-story “green and healthy” facility not only houses the health center, but a Citizens Bank and CVS/Pharmacy as well – the first pharmacy in Mattapan in over 30 years. Read more
Students at the Mattahunt Elementary School will return to a dramatically improved school building today— the result of an $8 million city-funded modernization project that wrapped up over the summer. The renovation — which focused on exterior improvements to the Mattahunt campus – included a new roof, windows and landscaping. But, it’s the Lego-like color scheme on the building’s sheet metal façade that is the real eye-catcher. Read more
This is a big week for the Mattapan Community Health Center, the longtime institution that has just completed work on its brand new, $32 million facility in the heart of Mattapan Square. On Monday at 11 a.m., Governor Deval Patrick and Mayor Thomas Menino will be among the dignitaries who will join MCHC president/CEO Dr. Azzie Young in dedicating the new building at 1575 Blue Hill Avenue.
