Codman Sq. Farmers Market celebration
By
Supporters of the Codman Square Farmers Market (“CSFM”) and Mayor Menino will join together July 19th at 2:30 p.m. at the Codman Commons to celebrate fresh, local produce and the Dorchester community’s efforts to encourage healthy eating habits. Mayor Thomas M. Menino will speak about the importance of incorporating food and fitness at farmers markets and the Boston Moves for Health initiative.
The CSFM will be showcasing healthy food options with food demonstrations, presentations on the local food system, and farmer introductions. They will also be highlighting their successful efforts to make healthy food more affordable and accessible to residents through the Boston Bounty Bucks Program, and the Fruit and Vegetable Prescription Program (FVRx) with the Codman Square Health Center. The CSFM has participated in the FVRx initiative for three years, is the only farmers market in Massachusetts that currently offers it, and its model sets an innovative example for the rest of the city to follow.
