Public Health Commission to Host Health Forum in Mattapan
The Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC), in partnership with Mattapan Community Health Center (MCHC), Mattapan Food & Fitness Coalition (MFFC) and other Mattapan community organizations, is hosting a community dialogue on the Health of Mattapan. The meeting will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at the new Mattapan Community Health Center, located at 1575 Blue Hill Avenue.
The fourth in a series of citywide health forums this year, the Mattapan meeting is a platform for people living and working in the community to discuss health issues specific to the neighborhood. Participants will learn about the findings of the latest Health of Boston report and will have the opportunity to discuss key health issues affecting their neighborhood. BPHC, MCHC and MFFC are interested in working collaboratively with residents, businesses, community agencies, faith-based institutions, elected officials, and others to develop creative ideas that will help build a stronger, healthier Mattapan.
“This dialogue presents a wonderful opportunity for the community to come together to brainstorm new ways to address health challenges,” said Dr. Barbara Ferrer, executive director of the Boston Public Health Commission. “Everyone has a role to play in making our neighborhoods healthier.”
The event is free and open to the public. Attendees will be eligible to enter a drawing for prizes donated by local businesses. Light dinner and interpreting (Spanish and Haitian Creole) services will be provided at no charge. Residents of all ages, providers, organizations, faith-based groups, youth groups, parents, seniors, and concerned local leaders are welcome to attend.
