Notre Dame Montessori School's Irish Night of Music and Celebration
On Saturday, June 7, from 6-10 p.m., the Notre Dame Montessori School Community will host an Irish Night of Music and Celebration at Florian Hall in Dorchester.
Music and entertainment will be provided by John Connors & the Irish Express Band and the Peggy Woods School of Irish Dance. The event includes light hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction, and raffles and will be a celebration of the entire Notre Dame Montessori School Community: its wonderful teachers, children, parents, families, friends, supporters, and its Founder and Director, Sister Elizabeth Calcagni, SND.
Silent auction items include the chance to become a character in a future Dennis Lehane novel! If you win Mr. Lehane’s silent auction item, he will use your name for a character in a future novel. Mr. Lehane’s work includes such highly successfully and well known novels as Gone Baby Gone, Mystic River and Shutter Island, all set in Boston and adapted into award winning films. Raffles include cash prizes of $500 for first place, $250 for second, and $125 for third!
Sister Elizabeth has joyfully served the children of the Harbor Point/ Columbia Point neighborhood and surrounding communities for more than 40 years. Since opening its doors in 1974 in the basement of St. Christopher Church on Mount Vernon Street, the School has been a garden of growth and nourishment for both the students and their families. Through many social and economic changes, the School has continued its mission of providing quality pre-school education to children through multiple generations of students. No child is ever turned away - because they are the garden of our future – and many of the Schools former students have gone on to excel in pursuit of their academic and professional careers!
Our honoree for the event will be our own Sr. Elizabeth Calcagni, SND. Sister Elizabeth and her teachers provide the only affordable, high quality early childhood, Montessori education for many children regardless of family background or financial circumstances in the Harbor Point area and neighboring communities. The program aims at building self-esteem, independence and inner motivation. It is located across the street from the Geiger Gibson Health Center. This event is a crucial part of the school’s fundraising efforts and all proceeds will support the basic operations of the school.
