“The “Young Men’s Leadership Conference” will offer young students of color in grades 7-12 a fresh approach to building a healthy foundation in becoming well-read, well-spoken, well-dressed, well-traveled and well-balanced.
Presentations and workshops will address major issues, ranging from leadership to healthy living, affecting minority male students. This year’s conference will include a special address by Morehouse College President Dr. John S. Wilson, PhD., former Director of Foundation Relations and Assistant Provost at MIT. Workshops and keynotes include the power of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (S.T.E.M.) education by Mr. Joseph Bostic, Jr., Raytheon Corporation; a multi-media presentation on the advantages of being well-traveled by Mr. Darren T. Wells, Boston Public Schools- (Around the World in # Days); a session on the Digital Footprint – (The Internet is Forever- Remember That!) and a session on financial literacy.
Special guest speaker is Derrick ‘Fonzworth Bentley’ Watkins, musician, author and host of MTV’s “from G’s to Gents”. Watkins will offer students advice on advancing professionally using manners, confidence and style. In addition, longtime GMBCAA sponsor, Massachusetts-based TJX Companies, Inc. will present an innovative fashion show showcasing proper clothing etiquette for all facets of a young man’s social and professional life. The event will close with a Greek showcase.
