Join Franklin Park Coalition along with youngsters and people of all ages to our annual Elma Lewis Playhouse in the Park: Free Concert & Film series. Each Tuesday from July to August, Franklin Park will be bursting with the sounds of Jazz and Top 40, provided by the best local talent.
Morning concerts are geared towards kids and families and will feature dancing, drumming and interactive play. While the evening concerts will feature various genres of music and is open to the public. It is sure to be a great summer while enjoying great music and talent acts! Read more
In some ways Franklin Park is a ruin of itself, roads overgrown with weeds winding through jungle-like wilderness and rocky ruins rising up from the groundcover. Back in the 1880s Frederick Law Olmsted carefully planned how visitors would tour the park on paths and carriage roads. But over the years, things have changed. Read more
A presentation on a study of Franklin Park's transportation patterns that will inform recommendations for changes went largely unnoticed last month, due to short notice to the Franklin Park Coalition and what appears to be an absence of advertising for the meeting. Only five people showed up to the Aug. 14 meeting hosted by the Boston Parks Department, and the director of the FPC, Christine Poff, wasn't one of them. Read more

There were several rather odd things going on up at the William Devine Golf Course last Friday. I hate to be the one breaking news in this city, because after all I'm not really a journalist I'm just a story teller, but I think it's time to expose what could be several long running scandals.
And yes, once again most of them have to do with people from the City of Boston. Trust me, these scandals have nothing to do with paternity tests that are never going to happen. Read more
The gem of Frederick Law Olmstead's Emerald Necklace, Franklin Park, is getting a shine this summer. A 32 youth with Franklin Park Coalition and six from Youth Build Boston are working to spruce up areas inside the 527-acre refuge that connects the distinct neighborhoods of Dorchester, Mattapan, Roxbury, and Jamaica Plain.
The Franklin Park Coalition's Summer Youth Conservation crew is made up of teenagers, ages 15 through 18, working in paid positions to improve the grounds, specifically 220-acres of woodlands that are in need of care. Read more
Folk singer Odetta, who showed Harry Belafonte a thing or two about song and inspired the likes of Bob Dylan and Joan Baez back in the 60s, opened up the Playhouse in the Park series Tuesday. A few present were taken back to 40-year-old memories of the Elma Lewis Playhouse of the 1960s. Odetta first played there in 1968. Read more
It isn't glamorous, nothing more than a chain-link fence, a few trees, a puddle and a pile of hay bales, but to Pepe and Kotze it's a new beginning, a chance to get to know each other and maybe lay an egg or two.
"He does want to get close to her, but as you notice, she keeps moving away from him," observes Fred Beall, Franklin Park Zoo's general curator, from just outside the African wattled crane exhibit there. "We'll know when they're bonded because they'll be standing next to each other." Read more
