If the mayor's race was based on the caliber of jokes last Sunday at the St. Patrick's Day breakfast, City Councillor At-Large Sam Yoon might have scored an upset. That's according to an informal survey of participants of the annual Irish-themed roast of Massachusetts politics and politicians.
Yoon, making his first speaking appearance at the breakfast, veered between plays on his name and the mystery of what a fortune cookie supposedly foretelling the next mayor of Boston said. Read more

Kevin McCrea, a self-described goo-goo (good governance advocate) who successfully sued City Council for violating the Open Meeting Law, is scheduled to announce his candidacy for mayor tonight at a private home on St. Mark's Road.

On that day the paper ran a story that led with details about a fundraising appeal sent by Yoon's wife Christina that made mention of a "higher office" and went into a horse-race tally of Mayor Thomas Menino's, Councillor Michael Flaherty's and Yoon's bank accounts. Former Councillor Larry DiCara was quoted as saying, "Yoon has to have a six-figure number, or else he shouldn't be playing the game." Read more
