Family Variety Fridays

Every Friday evening the Anthony D. Perkins Community Center hosts “Family Variety Fridays”. This is a FREE weekly Friday event open to family, friends of all ages and the community-at-large, all summer long. No membership or registration required.

Activities include but are not limited to movie nights, pool parties, carnival nights and talent shows.

Please come enjoy complimentary snacks and beverages while viewing a family friendly film.

Boston’s Next Top Model is a self-esteem and self-care program designed to build confidence and social awareness in girls between the ages of 11-17. Through learning to model, the girls will have the opportunity to learn how to posture themselves, both figuratively and literally.  Read more

Bill Forry did a great job representing Boston on MSNBC

In the middle of all of the week's tragedy is the fact that local and national media paid attention to the good news about our communities. They focused on the heroic and the compassion and the caring that we live every day but that rarely gets recognized unless in a neighborhood paper.

It was good to see Bill Forry on a national program. I look forward to more.

The following remarks at the ‘Healing Our City’ interfaith service were delivered at the South End’s Cathedral of the Holy Cross. The remarks are in the order they were delivered: Mayor Thomas Menino, who rose from his wheelchair to deliver his speech, Gov. Deval Patrick and President Barack Obama. The president later met with Boston Athletic Association volunteers and then left to meet with patients at Massachusetts General Hospital.  Read more

The Boston Police Department reports it is looking for an AR15 rifle stolen from the bedroom of a resident of 157 Intervale St. in Grove Hall yesterday.  Read more

Police charge man snuck into Frederick School with a gun

The Boston Police Department reports a gun-toting man refused entry into the Lilla G. Frederick Middle School on Columbia Road by officers Monday afternoon snuck back in to continue an argument with somebody at basketball tryouts there.

On seeing officers again, this time outside the school gym around 3:45 p.m., the man and three accomplices tried running away, police say. Officers caught one of them, but the man and two others escaped - at least until officers on patrol on Devon Street noticed two guys matching a broadcast description from the school:  Read more

Police: Bandit may be targeting passengers leaving Red Line

Boston and MBTA Police are stepping up patrols this week and warning the public after a flurry of street robberies targeting women that may be the work of a single, armed bandit. The incidents have all targeted women who were walking home from Red Line stations, including JFK-UMass, Savin Hill, Shawmut and Ashmont.

“We’re concerned about it,” said Captain Richard Sexton, commander of the Area C-11 police district. “It seems like it’s one person right now. We’ve had a few others on the district recently, but there’s definitely a pattern going here along the Red Line.”  Read more
