Every Friday evening the Anthony D. Perkins Community Center hosts “Family Variety Fridays”. This is a FREE weekly Friday event open to family, friends of all ages and the community-at-large, all summer long. No membership or registration required.
Activities include but are not limited to movie nights, pool parties, carnival nights and talent shows.

Boston’s Next Top Model is a self-esteem and self-care program designed to build confidence and social awareness in girls between the ages of 11-17. Through learning to model, the girls will have the opportunity to learn how to posture themselves, both figuratively and literally. Read more
Boston City Singers is holding auditions in June for the 2013-2014 season. All young people ages 4-18 are invited to audition, and no previous singing experience is required.

Clayton Street — a busy sidestreet between Park and Freeport Streets near Fields Corner— will be closed to traffic this weekend as workers prepare to replace an aging bridge that carries trains on the Dorchester leg of the Red Line.
There will be no interruption to train service this weekend, although service will be halted — and replaced with buses—for three consecutive weekends in July and again in October’s Columbus Day weekend when a new span is scheduled to be installed. Clayton Street will be closed to thru traffic from May 25-27 while abutment tiebacks are installed. The existing steel bridge dates to 1911. Read more

The following remarks at the ‘Healing Our City’ interfaith service were delivered at the South End’s Cathedral of the Holy Cross. The remarks are in the order they were delivered: Mayor Thomas Menino, who rose from his wheelchair to deliver his speech, Gov. Deval Patrick and President Barack Obama. The president later met with Boston Athletic Association volunteers and then left to meet with patients at Massachusetts General Hospital. Read more
A spokesperson for the state's Dept. of Revenue says that a seizure order at Hi-Fi Pizza — imposed after a lunchtime raid on Tuesday— has been released after the owner "successfully worked out a payment agreement. The pizzeria's owner, Mike Hatzistefanou, confirmed the news to the Reporter on Friday and said that the shop should be open for business for tonight's dinner rush.
"We're hoping to re-open by 5 o'clock," said Hatzistefanou. "We're in here now clearing out the old food and getting new food ready." Read more

Boston and MBTA Police are stepping up patrols this week and warning the public after a flurry of street robberies targeting women that may be the work of a single, armed bandit. The incidents have all targeted women who were walking home from Red Line stations, including JFK-UMass, Savin Hill, Shawmut and Ashmont.
“We’re concerned about it,” said Captain Richard Sexton, commander of the Area C-11 police district. “It seems like it’s one person right now. We’ve had a few others on the district recently, but there’s definitely a pattern going here along the Red Line.” Read more
