Cote eyes second run against Feeney

Fields Corner resident Michael Cote plans to run for the Boston City Council's second district seat in a race that will pit him against 14-year incumbent and current City Council President Maureen Feeney.
Cote has challenged Feeney previously, in 2005, and he says that while the issues facing the district and the city have changed in the two years since that election, his reasons for running and the priorities he would bring to the council have not. Read more
Tenant dispute imperils Fields Corner mall plan renovations

Plans to bring A.J. Wright to the Fields Corner Mall are imperiled this week because a clause in their lease for space at the mall would allow them to walk away if renovations do not begin on the site by June 30. Work was scheduled to begin on the mall earlier this month, but the refusal of existing tenant, Bd's, a discount store, to leave the site has delayed the start of renovations. Read more
Two Main Streets programs celebrate new partnerships

Fields Corner Main Street received a $10,000 check from Neighborhood Health Plan, their new corporate buddy, at an annual winter meeting on Monday night.
FCMS's previous corporate buddy, Keyspan, had provided a four-year sponsorship that expired at the end of 2004. But by that time FCMS was largely inactive, and only in the past year did the program again pick up steam.
The new partnership is another step forward for the Main Street program, which was reinvigorated last year by a new board of directors and executive director in Evelyn Darling. Read more

Dutch Maid Bakery is celebrating its 25th anniversary this week. For many Dorchester residents, the bakery has gone unnoticed, tucked away in the Alsen Mapes Industrial Park in Fields Corner. However, many residents have probably bought a Dutch Maid product in the local supermarket to celebrate a birthday or special occasion.
Since 1978, the wholesale bakery operation has been baking and frosting cakes that appear in local supermarkets across Massachusetts and the eastern parts of the country, and for the last 18 years, Dutch Maid has been baking in Dorchester. Read more
Longtime Fields Corner Bank: to Be Acquired

Massachusetts Cooperative Bank, a longtime Fields Corner financial institution with total assets of $121 million and deposits of $101 million, will be acquired by the Abington Savings Bank, a state chartered savings bank with 13 bank offices in the South Shore.
The joint announcement came on Wednesday, April 10 by officials of Abington Bancorp, Inc. holding company for Abington Savings Bank, and Massachusetts Fincorp Inc., parent of Mass Coop. Read more
