The redevelopment of the former St. Kevin’s property in Uphams Corner has hit another roadblock by failing in its second attempt to receive crucial state funds. The setback comes as some community members are expressing concerns about the size and make-up of the project.

Lisa Alberghini, head of the Planning Office of Urban Affairs, which is spearheading the project through the St. Kevin’s Limited Partnership, said they are assessing their options and will likely apply for the next round of state funding in the fall.

“We’re not planning to stop or anything like that,” she said.  Read more

The Dorchester Day Parade Committee is hosting its 1st annual art contest open to all
Dorchester residents in the 3rd through 6th grade or students that attend a Dorchester
school. Two (2) prizes will be awarded to the drawings that are chosen from a
panel of local judges. Please fill out the registration form below and mail it with your
Art to the committee chair. A completed registration form and Art must be
postmarked by March 16, 2012 to be considered for a prize.

A man in his 20s was fatally shot Saturday afternoon at 23 Trull St., the Boston Police Department reports.

Police say the man was found inside the house and was taken to Boston Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Last April, a man was found shot to death across the street.

This was Boston's first murder of 2012 (Dorchester and Mattapan murder map).
