Codman Square pharmacist pleads guilty to conspiracy to commit Medicaid fraud

A long-time Codman Square pharmacist was convicted on Monday of Medicaid fraud, federal officials said.

Amadiegwu “Joe” Onujiogu, 63, pleaded guilty before a U.S. District judge on Monday to a conspiracy to defraud the U.S. government. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 16. He is facing ten years in prison, as well as three years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine.  Read more

A new pharmacy has opened for business on the ground floor of the Codman Square Health Center, which is following the lead of several other community health centers that have already captured an important market by carving out space for an in-house drug store.  Read more

Codman Square bank robbed

Alleged robberThe FBI reports a man robbed the Mt. Washington Bank branch at 305 Talbot Ave. on Monday.

The FBI describes him as a white male, clad in a green sweatshirt and blue jeans. He is charged with giving a teller a note demanding money, after which he fled on foot.  Read more

Become a Basic Literacy or ESOL Tutor

Literacy Volunteers of Massachusetts invites prospective volunteers to one of our informational orientations held August 16 and September 9 from 6-8 in downtown Boston. Volunteer tutors work one-to-one with students from communities throughout the Greater Boston area, including Dorchester and Mattapan, for 2-hours per week for a minimum of 9 to 12 months at mutually convenient times in public places. LVM trains volunteers to tutor adult learners in either Basic Literacy or English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).  Read more

City Council passes Menino budget by 11-2 vote

The City Council on Wednesday voted 11-2 to pass Mayor Thomas Menino’s $2.3 billion budget for fiscal year 2011. Councillors also voted unanimously to pass a home rule petition – which requires approval from the mayor, the governor and the state Legislature – to hand library trustees the power to fundraise for the cash-strapped library system.  Read more
