The following remarks at the ‘Healing Our City’ interfaith service were delivered at the South End’s Cathedral of the Holy Cross. The remarks are in the order they were delivered: Mayor Thomas Menino, who rose from his wheelchair to deliver his speech, Gov. Deval Patrick and President Barack Obama. The president later met with Boston Athletic Association volunteers and then left to meet with patients at Massachusetts General Hospital. Read more

Photo courtesy Mayor's OfficeDiligence, hard-work, and mastering the art of being underestimated were the tools Tom Menino used to establish himself in Boston politics: first as a driver, aide, and campaign manager to others; then as district city councilor for Hyde Park; and finally as mayor.
Lacking Kevin White’s polish and Ray Flynn’s emotional intensity, Menino majored in survival. Nobody ever voted Tom off the island. He enters history as Boston’s longest serving mayor. With five consecutive terms under his belt, he is the Ted Williams of Boston politics – the first, and maybe the last, of the city’s 1.000 political hitters with five straight mayoral campaign hits in five at bats.
Menino’s essential guise of being a regular guy – nose to the grindstone trying to do the right thing – proved a potent act. Make no mistake: It was an act. No one without burning ambition, laser-like focus, and the ability to maximize luck when fate broke his way, could rise and flourish as Menino did. Read more
Police: Bandit may be targeting passengers leaving Red Line

Boston and MBTA Police are stepping up patrols this week and warning the public after a flurry of street robberies targeting women that may be the work of a single, armed bandit. The incidents have all targeted women who were walking home from Red Line stations, including JFK-UMass, Savin Hill, Shawmut and Ashmont.
“We’re concerned about it,” said Captain Richard Sexton, commander of the Area C-11 police district. “It seems like it’s one person right now. We’ve had a few others on the district recently, but there’s definitely a pattern going here along the Red Line.” Read more

The Dorchester House Guys and Gals Senior Club meets every Tuesday under the Leadership of Rosemary Gallagher for BINGO starting at 12:30 pm to 3:00 pm. Girl Scout registration will be held every Saturday at First Parish Church in Dorchester, 10 Parish Street, Dorchester, MA 02122 from 9 to 9:30. We have openings for girls from K2 to grade 6. We meet every Saturday from 10:00 to 12:00. There has been an ongoing Girl Scout program at First Parish since 1979. Feeney Brothers build new home in a familiar place

Greg and Brendan Feeney don’t have to share an office on the spacious third floor of their new headquarters on Park Street. There’s plenty of room here for the owners of one of the region’s top utility contractors to spread out if they really wanted to.
But the Feeney brothers have been sharing space with good humor and great success since the day they started their own business back in 1987 from the back porch of Brendan’s three-decker home on Elmer Rd. Read more
DOT DAY: Brown and Warren marching in parade and more

U.S. Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren will be making her first appearance in the annual Dorchester Day Parade on Sunday, where she'll be joined by her chief rival Scott Brown.
Warren will be marching in the third division, while Brown will be in the chief marshal's division. (It's customary for incumbents to march ahead of challengers.)
The two are hardly strangers to Dorchester: Both have featured the neighborhood in their television ads. Read more

Dorchester residents in the 3rd through 6th grade or students that attend a Dorchester
school. Two (2) prizes will be awarded to the drawings that are chosen from a
panel of local judges. Please fill out the registration form below and mail it with your
Art to the committee chair. A completed registration form and Art must be
postmarked by March 16, 2012 to be considered for a prize.
