Bowdoin St. garage permit gets legal examination

The on-going controversy over a permit granted to a Bowdoin St. auto shop reached a new level of bureaucratic entanglement Tuesday afternoon when the City’s Zoning Board of Appeal declined to rule on a permit issued by the Inspectional Services Department that allows the shop to legally operate as a repair shop.
The Board of Appeal voted to move the issue to the City’s Legal department in order to closer examine the legality of the permit and the shop’s operations. Read more
Neponset Health Center teams up with Neighborhood Health Plan

Starting Friday July 10th Neponset Health Center will be hosting a health insurance table hosted by a Neighborhood Health Plan representative. Neighborhood Health Plan will be in the lobby of the Neponset Health Center every other Friday from 9am-2pm with information on the health insurance plans that are available to everyone. The Neighborhood Health Plan rep. will be able to answer any questions that you may have about their plans and will help find out which plan will work best for you. You have a choice! Open enrollment for health insurance through the State of Massachusetts is coming to an end this Thursday, June 25th. Make sure that you have taken advantage of this time and have made sure you will have the health insurance plan of your choice under Commonwealth Care Plans & Mass Health. If you are currently enrolled in a health insurance plan through the State of Massachusetts either it be Neighborhood Health Plan, Network Health or BMC Health Net you have the option to switch to another plan if you want to or you can stay with your current plan. Health Insurance??? Who does not have it? Who needs it?
There are so many reasons why people do not have health insurance. It is not offered through my employer, it is so expensive, I don't know how to get it on my own... Are any of these really worth the penalty? It is now a law in Massachusetts for all residents to have health insurance. I am sure a lot of people got hit with the tax penalty in April if you did not have proof of health insurance for 2008. The fee that you may be forced to pay in April 2010 may be more than $1,000 depending on your situation. Why throw this money away? Read more
BRA approves Bloomfield Gardens, which has more hurdles to clear

The Boston Redevelopment Authority Board has approved Viet-AID’s Bloomfield Gardens development, a 27-unit residential building proposed for a long-vacant lot at Geneva Avenue and Bloomfield Street, but the project still needs zoning changes to proceed.
Though the immediate area is densely populated, and several three-story buildings similar to the one proposed, several abutters have been fighting the density of Bloomfield Gardens—some of whom have admitted they’d rather see nothing developed at the site. Read more
