Youth are a powerful force of change and we are recruiting and training teens to connect with and engage citizens through community service learning projects. A rash of street robberies around Ashmont station prompted the MBTA Transit Police to issue an advisory to their officers on Tuesday. The warning details a string of four armed and unarmed robberies targeting black teenagers over the last week. Read more

The program is free for participants, but we do ask that girls commit to all sessions. This program starts next week. We can take girls on the second session if necessary.

Red Line commuters who have waited through years of Ashmont Station construction for a back entrance to the subway to reopen will have to trek around the station for another year and a half â€“ at least.
The Radford Lane entrance to the station, tucked on the one-way side street off Carruth Street, wonâ€™t open until the middle of 2011, according to MBTA officials. The news has left some in the neighborhood upset about continued longer walks and concerned about the ultimate fate of the entrance. Read more
Project D.E.E.P. (Dorchester Educational Enrichment Program) is seeking a few good tutors from the local community.
The commitment is one ninety (90) minute time period per week to work with one child. This period can be anytime from 3:00 - 8:00pm on any day Monday through Thursday.
There are three locations in Dorchester, and we are seeking tutors for all of them. Read more

Registration for Fall Classes is currently underway at ODWIN Learning Center. Classes begin on September 9, 2009. ODWIN Learning Center offers Foundation Courses in Math, English Grammar, Reading and Study Skills and Advanced Courses in Algebra, Biology, Chemistry, Composition, Humanities and Pharmacological Math.
Two new courses are being offered beginning this semester: Communication Skills for Non-Native English Speakers and College Survival Skills. Read more

â€œHey, you want some art with those artichokes?â€
Last Friday, a 9 foot-tall papier-mÃ¢chÃ© giraffe made by kids in the Dot Art greeted customers who flocked to the opening of the brand new farmers market in Peabody
Square/ Ashmont Station. The copper-and-gold spotted herbivore seemed to indicate that the weekly bazaar was the place to feed the spirit as well as the belly.
Market organizers â€”which included St. Markâ€™s Area Main Street (SMAMS)â€” looked to other successful ventures for ideas on which vendors to invite. Read more
