Dr. Dan O’Leary, who resigned as president of Caritas Carney Hospital on May 14, has accepted an offer to re-join the health care network as a physician. O’Leary will be the chief of Neuroradiology for St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center and the Caritas Christi Physician Network.
O’Leary’s abrupt resignation came days after an e-mail he sent out seeking support for his brother— Massachusetts State Senator Robert O’Leary, a candidate for Congress — generated controversy within the Catholic hospital chain. O’Leary apologized for the breech in protocol and then resigned the next day. Caritas officials have said O’Leary had been contemplating a return to medicine for some time. O’Leary has not talked to reporters about his decision, but in a statement given to the Reporter about his new position, O’Leary stated, “Caritas’ commitment to bringing world-class neurological care to our communities is unwavering, and I am happy to play a key role.”
Caritas CEO Ralph de la Torre, in the same statement sent to the Reporter, called O’Leary “a valued member of the Caritas family and a world-renowned neuroradiologist.”
