Two charged with shooting; police had to search for victim

The Boston Police Department reports the arrest of a pair of men for an afternoon shooting on West Cottage Street that sent one man to the hospital - after police found the victim, who had walked away from the scene.

Police say about 20 minutes after the 4:20 shooting at 16 West Cottage, officers in Dorchester noticed a car matching a witness's description at Adams and Park streets in Dorchester. "Officers followed the car while asking for the assistance of other units and successfully stopped the car near the intersection of Lincoln and Dorchester Avenue. Officers approached the car and based on the nature of the call asked the suspects to show their hands and exit the car. The operator of the car exited the car upon being asked to do so but the passenger hesitated before getting out of the car and did not do so until officers reached to open the door. The passenger got of the car and as he did a firearm fell to the ground."

Meanwhile, offices back at the shooting scene had to search for the victim; police say they found him walking down Brook Street.

The suspects, Carl W. Edwards, 29 of Roxbury, and Paul O. Francis, 19, of Dorchester were charged with assault with intent to murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and assault by means of a dangerous weapon. Edwards was also charged with possession of heroin and Francis with possession of marijuana.
