Candido Oliveira, an out-of-work Dorchester man, made his way down to Massachusetts Lottery headquarters in Braintree Tuesday morning with his whole entourage – his girlfriend, Edite Monteiro — to claim his MegaMillions jackpot game prize. Lottery officials met him there, noting that he was a “low-key” individual, and presented him with a check for $15.5 million, his share of the $32 million prize money after taxes and the lump-sum payout subtraction.

Oliveira, who is 47, has two children, and has lived in Massachusetts for 20 years, bought his winning ticket (he had a 176-million-to-one chance of taking the prize the Lottery says, and his numbers – 5-15-53-54-56, with a break-a-tie MegaBall number of 22 – did just that) at the Tedeschi Food store on Neponset Avenue on Friday and seemed “non-plussed” about his win and all that went with it, said a Lottery spokesperson on his arrival in Braintree.

Facing the media is part and parcel of winning big in the Lottery games and Oliveira stepped up to the task with a distinct uncertainty (he doesn’t like cameras, he pointed out) as reporters waited to talk to the neighborhood’s newest multi-millionaire, who, said Beth Bresnahan of the Lottery, had been laid off by Iron Mountain, an information management company.

The questions were typical and the winner answered typically: New house, new car, help for family and friends, and no more looking for a job. (“I think I’m done,’’ he said.)

The was a second winner on this ticket: Hani El-Shurafa, the owner of the Tedeschi shop where the ticket was sold, will get a $50,000 commission check from the Lottery.
