Intramural Basketball League Championships

The 4-team Girls Low Rim division, the 6-team Boys Low Rim division and the 4-team 14&U Co-ed divisions of Intramural Basketball wrapped up their respective 2011 seasons over the past two weeks. In the Girls division the first of two semi-final games saw the Mavericks defeat the Rockets 22-11. Melanie Wiltshire (10), Michelle Beazley (8) and Derica Smith (4) led the Mavericks while Jasmine Burgos (8) and Erica Correia (3) led the Rockets. In the second semi-final play-off game it was the Warriors, behind the offense of Jasmine Castro (10), Abby Connolly (3), Leilani Correia (2), Thalia Cruz (1) and Adrianna Davis (1) besting the Clippers 17-12. The Clippers were led by Michana Smith (9), Micha Smith (2) and Victoria Fonseca (1). Congratulations to the Warriors, who went on to capture the 2011 championship. In The Boys Low Rim division the first of two quarter-final games saw the Hawks get by the Knicks 29-20. Alaji Mansaray (14), Dana Monteiro (6), Bellami Howell (2), Korey Kennedy (2), Declan Traphagen (2), Sean Kelly (1), Alex Miranda (1) and Kirby Heffernan (1) led the Hawks while Nathan Lam (4), Tahron Allen (4), Deandre Baptista (3), Nicholas Clements (3), Octavius Nunes (2) and Zeyvon Alves (2) led the Knicks. In the late game the Bulls, behind De’Andre Dew-Hollis (14), Kenneth Demosthene (8), Kevin Zarnoch (6), Jahleil Holley (4), Nathan Rodrigues (3) and Jackson Walsh (3) bested the Pistons 38-34. Darian Kavu (18), Jumarie Borden (11) and Derek Correia (5) led the Pistons. In the opener of semi-final action the Bulls just got by the Lakers in overtime 51-49. The Bulls were led by De’Andre Dew-Hollis (36), Jahleil Holley (8), Sean Dykens (4), Kevin Zarnoch (2) and Jackson Walsh (1) while the Lakers were led by Dante Lopes (19), Joshua Herron (10), Tyler Wright (8), Colin Craddock (6) and Eoin Gormely (6). In the second game it was the Celtics earning a berth in the championship with a 37-36 win over the Hawks. The Celtics were led by Miles McKinney (18), Deijon Holmes (6), Rodney Adams (5), Malik Montrond (4), Nazio Defreitas (2), Damari Goldsmith (1) and Jacob Clark (1) while the Hawks were led on offense by Dana Monteiro (30), Korey Kennedy (2), Kirby Heffernan (2), Henry Heffernan (2) and Declan Traphagen (1). In the championship game the Bulls opened up a sizeable half-time lead on their way to 48-38 victory. De’Andre Dew-Hollis (21), Kevin Zarnoch (9), Ameen Lacey (7), Jahliel Holley (6), Jackson Walsh (4) and Nathan Gomes (1) led the Bulls while the Celtics were led by Deijon Holmes (14), Miles McKinney (13), Malik Montrond (8), Carlos Robalo (2) and Rodney Adams (1). Congratulations to the Bulls on earning the 2011 championship. In the Co-ed 14&U division the first of two semi-final games saw the Nuggets take down the Sixers 59-43. The Nuggets were led by Francis Depina (32), Giovanni DePina (12), Donizete Fernandes (8), Alberto Monteiro (6) and Mohammed Mansalay (1) while the Sixers were led by Terrell Davis (15), Malik Brown (13), David Watkins (8), Mauro Barbosa (4), Anthony DePina (2) and Junior Monteiro (1). In the second game the Cavs bested the Pacers 45-29. Cedric Correia (11), Samuel Aloidor (8), Walter Dew-Hollis (6), Emmanuel Kollie (6), Ben O’Sullivan (6), Jeffrey Herron (4) and Eric Correia (4) led the Cavs while Zelito Pina (12), Ibrahim Mansalay (12), Darius Hinds (4) and Devante Teixeira (1) led the Pacers. In the championship game, which was a back and forth classic, the Nuggets held on for a 52-51 win over the Cavs. Francis DePina (24), Alberto Monteiro (11), Donizete Fernandes (10), Giovanni DePina (2), Shakeim Almond (2), Armani Correia (2) and Mohammed Mansalay (2) led the Nuggets while the Cavs offense was led by Walter Dew-Hollis (18), Cedric Correia (13), Eric Correia (8), Samuel Alouidor (8) and Jeffrey Herron (3). Family Literacy Event

On Friday, March 25th, the Club will team with the Dorchester Cluster to host a Family Literacy Event. Thanks to support from the Boston Citywide Family Child Care Committee and the Boston Community Partnerships Program there will be Fun Family Activities, a Storyteller, a light Dinner, take home resources, and much more. The event will take place from 5:30 – 8:00 p.m. and is open to all Families in the community with children ages 1 to 10 years of age.
