June Program Highlights

The school-year program will end with a bang as the month of June will be peppered with special events in all core program areas
In our Athletics program we will host the Annual Triple Play Olympics on June 4. The day will include track events, an obstacle course and the championship game from our Intramural Soccer program. Preliminary play-offs and the best 2-of-3 championship series for the 10-team Intermediate/Senior Basketball League will take place this month with the championship games being held on June 14, 16 and 18.

Look for registration for the 16-team Safe Summer Streets Basketball League on June 11 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be a division for Girls (ages 13-18), Intermediate Boys (ages 13-15) and Senior Boys (ages 15-18).

In our Education program we will close out the Homework Help, One-to-One Tutoring and our weekly drop-in club programs in mid-June. Special events for the month include an Ice Cream Social and Book Bag Give-a-way for outstanding participants in the Tutoring program (June 8), a trip to the Scooper Bowl (June 9), a trip to the Aquarium June 13) and a trip to the “Read your way to Fenway” kick-off (June 15).
In our Social Recreation program we will hold orientation for members invited to take part in Camp Northbound on June 4 and June 6, begin registration for the Summer program (members ages 6 to 12) on June 6, and host our Annual Member Recognition Night Dinner on June 29. Award winners will receive their invitation by mail. Additional events include our Field Day/Open House (June 4) and a Girls Night (June 17).
In our Aquatic department the Swim Lesson program will wind down in early June. On June 3 we will host the Watertown and Revere Swim Teams in a special meet, and will follow that up with the championship Meet for the 6-team Intramural Swim League on June 4.

For teen members ages 16 and older, we will begin an intensive 2-week Lifeguard Training Course on June 9. Pre-registration is required. Lastly, we will start accepting registrations for the Summer Swim Team on June 11.

At our Denney Center Unit, located in Harbor Point, we will be hosting a 3-day Cape House Retreat (June 10-13), the Munch & Mingle (June 22), the Parents Forum (6/23) and a trip to Mini-Golf & Go-Karts (June 24).
In our Arts program we will be offering drop-in classes such as Open Art (Mondays), Painting (Tuesdays), Sculpture (Wednesdays), Girls Art/Boys Art (Thursdays) and Open Art (Fridays) through the end of the month. In our Music Clubhouse look for drop-in sessions along with Rock Band (June 3), a Town Hall Meeting (June 8), Karaoke (June 10) and Open Mic Night (June 17). We will also be accepting registrations for Summer Lessons for ages 10 & older from June 13 to 17 (current members) and from June 20 to 24 (new members).

In our Teen program look for the Speakers Series (June 1), a trip to Paint Ball (June 11), the Munch & Mingle (June 15), a trip to Roller World (June 17) and a trip to Golf Country (June 22).

Members of the Keystone Club will be volunteering at the Club’s Field Day (June 4), at the Massachusetts Special Olympics (June 18) and taking an outing to Six Flags (June 25). The Teen staff will also be working with 100+ members seeking summer employment with processing (June 17) and staff training (June 30).

In our Patriot’s Kids Café, we will continue to serve a hot, nutritious meal to members weeknights at 4:30 p.m. through the end of the school year and host our monthly Family Night Dinner (June 15). Intramural Soccer Program
Regular season play is now complete in the 4-team, Co-ed Intramural Soccer program with the play-off tournament remaining to decide the 2011 champions.

The final standings have Manchester United in first place at 5-1, Inter Milan at 3-2-1, Celtic F.C. at 2-4 and F.C. Barcelona at 1-4-1. In the opener from last Friday’s regular season finale F.C. Barcelona defeated Inter Milan by a score of 5-4. Malik Silva (3 goals) and Walter Dew-Hollis (2 goals) led the F.C. Barcelona attack while Inter Milan was led by De’Andre Dew-Hollis (3 goals) and Jorden Terrell (1 goal).

In the second game Manchester United received their offense from Eben Butler (3 goals), Isaac Butler (3 goals), Jamarie Borden (1 goal), Tyler Wright (1 goal) and Melanie Wiltshire (1 goal) helping defeat Celtic F.C. by a score of 9-1. Ivanildo DaMoura (1 goal) provided the offense for Celtic F.C..

The Defensive Players of the Week were Armani Monteiro (Inter Milan) and Sean Kelly (Celtic F.C.) while the Offensive Players of the Week were Malik Silva (F.C.
