Junior Fernandes, 22, of Dorchester, was ordered held without bail on charges he shot Alessa Castellon repeatedly early Sunday - possibly as many as five times.

Hiding behind a door, hidden from a courtroom full of Castellon's relatives and friends, Fernandes listened as Suffolk County Assistant District Attorney David Fredette outlined the case against him in Dorchester District Court Monday afternoon.

Fredette said Fernandes and Castellon, 21, had had "an on again, off again relationship" for the past year that ended at 50 Granger St. in Dorchester shortly after 3 a.m. yesterday when Fernandes shot her repeatedly. He said the exact number of shots could change pending the results of an autopsy. Fernandes's sister lives at that address, he said.

Fredette said police found a gun at the scene. Fernandes drove away from the scene.

In addition to the murder charge, Fernandes is charged with illegal possession of a gun and ammunition.

Fernandes is due back in court on Aug. 26.
