Mattapan store owner shoots would-be robber

A man who allegedly tried to use a hammer to rob Essential Body Herbs, 1282 Blue Hill Ave., Tuesday night wound up getting carted away in an ambulance after the store's owner shot him.

WHDH-TV reports the owner has a license to carry the weapon.

The Boston Police Department reports the owner fired several times at the man, Raymond Sims, 47, whom responding officers found lying in the street outside with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to Boston Medical Center for treatment.

Police say that when Sims entered the store, he demanded money from a clerk, who instead of complying ran downstairs to get the owner - who came up with his gun.

Police add they intend to bring charges against Sims.
