The Boston Police Department reports a fatal crash at Washington and School streets around 2:30 a.m., Saturday, may have been caused by a second car that fled the scene.

According to police, "the passenger stated that a motor vehicle, attempting to pass them, struck their vehicle and caused the accident. The cause of the accident is under investigation."

Both women were transported to Boston Medical Center, where the driver was pronounced dead, police say.
