Boston cop on leave after alleged OUI, crash on Columbia Road

A Boston Police officer has been placed on administrative leave after a New Year’s Day auto crash in Dorchester that sent three people to the hospital. Boston Police said Officer Domenic Columbo was off-duty when his car crashed into another vehicle at Columbia Road and Ceylon Street— leaving a passenger in the other car with “serious” injuries.

Columbo, a six-year veteran who has not had any prior disciplinary trouble on the force, has been charged with “Operating Under the Influence causing Serious Bodily Injury.” He is on paid leave pending his next court date on Feb. 1.

“My officers are expected to abide by the same laws they are sworn to uphold,” Police Commissioner William Evans said in announcing the news.

“No one is above the law, and those who break it will be held accountable. I am happy to hear that all those injured will recover, and I take this opportunity to remind everyone not to drink and drive.”
