‘Sail For Dominica’ supports disaster recovery efforts

The non-profit organization Boston for Dominica (BfD) invites Dorchester residents to support their fundraiser ‘Sail for Dominica’ event on Sunday, September 23 aboard the Seaport Elite Yacht.

The ‘Sail for Dominica’ fundraiser will benefit Dominica’s recovery efforts that continue amid the devastation of Hurricane Maria one year ago this month. Guests will be treated to an elegant three-course lunch on a private enclosed deck, including inviting entertainment featuring some of the top DJs from neighboring Caribbean islands, and get a chance to win attractive raffle prizes.

“This is our first major fundraiser this season and we are hoping to increase participation to accomplish our immediate goal to help the people of Dominica, as we approach the one year anniversary of Hurricane Maria,” said Boston for Dominica Chair, Terri-Ann Bynoe. Dominica’s recovery efforts are focused on housing, schools, infrastructure, hospital equipment and restructuring the island’s disaster response system. “With the help of Boston area residents and local businesses across the Commonwealth, we anticipate an increase in support and event attendance this year.”

‘Sail for Dominica’ boarding time is at 11:30 a.m. Sailing from noon – 2:00 p.m. from the Seaport World Trade Center. Friends and supporters can contact at 781-474-0287 or purchase tickets online at Eventbrite.com (Sail For Dominica). This is a semi-formal event; tickets are available for $100.

Boston for Dominica, Inc. is a non-profit organization founded in 2015 by Dominicans in Massachusetts, as a direct and immediate response to support the people of Dominica affected by Tropical Storm Erika, which devastated the island on August 27, 2015.
