Dot teen musician named finalist in PBS talent show

Aedan Harasymiw, right, and Eowyn Young, left, have been selected as finalists in a PBS music talent show.

A Dorchester teen has been selected as a finalist in the Boston edition of a new PBS music talent show series called Celebrations of Music. Aedan Harasymiw of Lower Mills, along with Eowyn Young of Milton, form a guitar and vocal duo that has been tapped as one of 15 finalists in the competition, the winner of which will perform in a live televised concert this Sunday at the Wilbur Theatre with 14-year-old pianist prodigy Ethan Bortnick before heading to L.A. to compete in the national finals. The winner of each regional round will be chosen through an online voting process.

Harasymiw, 16, and Eowyn, 13, have performed together for about two years, playing gigs at porch festivals, nursing homes, and coffee shops around town. Harasymiw, a junior at Boston Arts Academy majoring in music with a concentration in jazz performance in theory, is a multi-instrumentalist who has played at venues such as the House of Blues, Ryles’ Jazz Club, Berklee Performance Center, and the Hard Rock Cafe in Boston.
