IBEW— Red Sox sponsor— pitches in for equipment drive

IBEW’s role at the equipment drive rates a billing on Fenway Park’s Green Monster.

Dorchester’s International Brotherhood of Electric Workers (IBEW) Local 103 headquarters will be the designated city location to donate any new and used baseball or softball equipment as part of a Red Sox and MLB-sponsored equipment drive for kids in need that will run through the end of the week.

The 14th annual equipment collection drive, organized as part of a league-wide initiative between Major League Baseball, the MLB Players Association, and the Baseball Tomorrow Fund, began last weekend during Boston’s series with the White Sox. The drive continues through June 15 at Local 103, located at 256 Freeport St. Donations can be made during the branch’s business hours, between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

All equipment raised at Local 103 will go to Kids Gear for Baseball, a Massachusetts-based non-profit organization that distributes equipment to children in need in the greater Boston area. The Baseball Tomorrow Fund will also award a $5,000 grant to Kids Gear for Baseball, which will be presented in the form of a ceremonial check before the Red Sox game on Saturday, June 23.

To date, the initiative has provided thousands of pieces of new and used equipment and $1.7 million in total monetary donations to more than 200 organizations in need.
