GBH 2 will broadcast the premiere of Frederick Wiseman’s “City Hall,” a four and a half- hour documentary that aims to illustrate how municipal government touches residents’ lives, on Tues., Dec. 22 at 8 p.m. The documentary follows Mayor Martin Walsh and his administration’s work in detail.

Through filmmaking Wiseman, himself a Boston native, hopes to show how city government touches upon almost every aspect of their lives, acknowledging how necessary services like sanitation, veterans affairs, elder support, parks, licensing bureaus, record-keeping, as well as a myriad of other activities that support the citizenry, are often taken for granted.

“City Hall,” Wiseman’s 45th film, has been screened at film festivals worldwide, including the Venice Film Festival, the Toronto International Film Festival, the New York Film Festival, IDFA, and others.
