Program helps residents navigate financial burdens

A new program within the Boston Office of Financial Empowerment launched Tuesday and offers residents free access to programs and services to manage income disruptions and other financial concerns brought on by the pandemic.

The Financial Navigator Program provides one-on-one remote conversations on personal financial issues, identifying steps to manage expenses and maximize income, and referrals to community-based and other city services. Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund provided $80,000 in grant funding, technical assistance, and training to launch the program in Boston.

"The Financial Navigator Program allows us to expand our work connecting residents with free financial resources to help tackle the unique challenges brought on by this crisis," Boston Mayor Martin Walsh said in a statement. "No one should feel alone during this time."
