New poll shows Wu with 30%, and a race for a second place

A new poll indicates Michelle Wu sits atop the mayoral race, with the other four candidates jockeying for second place.

The survey from MassINC Polling Group shows City Councillor Wu with 30%, Acting Mayor Kim Janey at 15%, City Councillor Annissa Essaibi George at 13%, City Councillor Andrea Campbell at 11%, and former city economic development official John Barros at 4%.

The undecided vote stands at 19%.

The poll of who voters support or lean towards is based on the responses of 453 registered voters who went to the polls in the 2020 presidential election. MassINC Polling Group conducted the survey between Aug. 25 and Aug. 30 through live telephone interviews.

“Many outcomes remain possible,” the polling outfit said in its presentation, and the numbers above do not reflect turnout models.

The poll was a collaboration between three groups: Policy for Progress, New Democracy Coalition and Housing Forward MA.

A poll from Emerson College/7News, released Aug. 26, focused on likely voters. The poll showed Wu at 24%, Essaibi George at 18%, Janey at 16%, Campbell at 14%, and Barros at 2%. Twenty-five percent said they were undecided.
