To the Editor:
It is with excitement that I share that I am officially on the ballot for the Boston City Council At-Large race. I want to share why I am running and outline my vision for a stronger, more equitable Boston.
Like many immigrant families, my parents and I came here seeking opportunity, stability, and a better life. Growing up, I saw Boston as a city of possibilities, yet I also witnessed the barriers faced by too many: language, culture, and systems not built for all.
As a proud first-generation Latina-Dominican and Bostonian and resident of Jamaica Plain, I’ve spent a decade in public service, dismantling these barriers and ensuring access to opportunity for every resident. Public service means serving the people, amplifying marginalized voices, and building equitable systems.
My experience as Citywide Latino Liaison and executive director of the Office of Women’s Advancement has given me a deep understanding of Boston’s challenges and the tools to address them. I’ve bridged gaps between immigrant communities and government, and delivered results like free period product access, Boston’s first postpartum education group, gender equity policies, and child-care programs.
This work is a snippet of my commitment to equity, inclusion, and delivering real change. I am running for City Council At-Large because Boston can and must work for everyone. Our strength is our diversity. My campaign is grounded in uplifting those historically left behind to build a better city for all. To achieve this, my policy focus centers on:
• Affordable Housing for Every Generation: Boston’s rising housing costs displace families and erode communities. When we care for our own by providing support services and opportunities, our city thrives. As councillor, I will advocate for bold solutions to ensure affordability across generations, protect residents from displacement and expand access to homeownership.
This includes stronger tenant protections with expanded rental assistance and legal representation, supporting co-purchasing power for multi-households, pushing for inclusionary zoning for more affordable units, and anti-displacement initiatives to keep families in their homes. I’ll support responsible landlords by incentivizing affordability, streamlining processes, and establishing mediation programs.
Expanding homeownership means increased funding for first-time homebuyer programs, supporting community land trusts, and assisting homeowners facing hardship. I’ll also ensure zoning prioritizes affordable housing near schools, transit, and jobs, supports sustainable housing, and fosters community collaboration. My approach involves bringing together residents, landlords, developers, and policymakers.
• Ensuring Quality Education for Every Boston Student: Education is the foundation of opportunity, and every child, regardless of zip code, deserves access to a high-quality education. As a mother and former English learner, I understand the importance of early childhood education and equitable access. I’ll fight to expand access to early learning by advocating for more universal Pre-K seats, increased funding and supporting child care providers, strengthen dual language and multilingual learning, guarantee educational equity across neighborhoods through fair funding and facilities investments, and partner with BPS stakeholders, city officials, families and communities to foster engagement and transparency.
• Building Stronger Communities & Improving Everyday Quality of Life: A thriving Boston needs strong communities, reliable services, and responsive leadership. As a former neighborhood liaison, I know how vital it is for residents to be heard. I’ll focus on strengthening basic city services and constituent support, ensuring safer and more accessible public spaces, and empowering neighborhoods through community development. This means responsive government, infrastructure maintenance, cleaner neighborhoods, traffic safety, park investments, community-led public safety, small business support, and housing development transparency.
Boston has given me so much, and I’m committed to bringing my experience, leadership, and passion to the City Council to ensure that every resident has the opportunity to thrive. I believe that by working together, we can build a Boston that is truly for everyone.
