Abdirahman Abanoor, a senior at the Holland High School of Technology (formerly Burke High) will receive up to $40,000 over four years to pursue a degree in computer science at Northeastern University through the Amazon Future Engineer scholarship program.

Abanoor is one of seven Massachusetts students to receive this prestigious honor out of 400 selected nationwide. The award includes a paid internship offer at Amazon after the first year of college to gain hands-on, practical work experience with mentorship from Amazon leaders.

“At Holland Tech, we strive to prepare our students for future success, and Abdirahman exemplifies the curiosity, perseverance and leadership that will drive the next generation of technological advancement,” said Dr. Artis C. Street, Head of School at the Holland. “We’re excited to see how he will continue to grow and contribute to the field of computer science. And with this scholarship, Abdirahman will continue his journey to be amongst other engineers in the computer science field.”

Three Dorchester residents— Kristen Kelley, Megan Moulaison, and Duyen Tran— were among 36 Quincy College students recently inducted into the local chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), an international academic honor society that focuses on leadership, scholarship, fellowship, and service.

More than 90 seniors and juniors were inducted into Emerson College’s s Gold Key Honor Society on Wed., April 2, in a ceremony in the Semel Theater that included Dorchester’s Theodore Amatruda.
