The senior advisor to Mayor Wu who has been overseeing high priority construction projects at White Stadium and Long Island has left City Hall for a new job as deputy chief of special projects at the Boston Water and Sewer Commission (BWSC).
Sean Lydon, who was the director of Inspectional Services (ISD) until January 2024, has 28 years of experience working at ISD and, more recently, as a special projects manager.
In January 2024, he was given a new mission: to “assist in managing high priority projects under construction, including White Stadium, the stabilization of the buildings as part of the Long Island recovery campus, coastal resilience, and emergency projects.”
He was replaced as head of ISD by the current director, Tania Del Rio. His portfolio of responsibilities for projects has been assumed by Deputy Chief of Operations Patricia Cafferky, with oversight from Chief of Operations Dion Irish.
The White Stadium construction project, which began earlier this year, has seen the demolition of the old structure mostly completed. Construction has been delayed, however, and the facility looks to open officially for the women’s professional soccer team, Boston Legacy FC, in spring 2027.
Lydon’s new role at BWSC, which started on Aug 1., will also involve overseeing construction projects, including major upgrades to a building on Harrison Avenue that has been the agency’s headquarters since 2001and, potentially, a new parking garage due to the loss of BWSC’s parking lots, which were assigned for development this year to Related Beal and DREAM Development.
Said a spokesperson at the agency: “His experience really adds a lot to our executive team.”
