Boston’s only triathlon is returning to the city this weekend, starting and finishing at DCR Carson Beach and Mother’s Rest Fields. But before the Olympic and Sprint Races start Sunday morning, community members are encouraged to participate in the 11th Annual Kids Day at the Boston Triathlon on Sat., August 16.
While the race attracts elite athletes from around the world each summer, Saturday will be all about Boston’s youth and families. Beginning at 12:30 p.m., those 15 and under are invited to participate in a variety of races at Carson Beach.
Every child will receive a bib, finisher medal, race shirt, and free food. Race packet pick up will begin at 1 p.m., and afterward the events will get underway with a 100-yard fun run for the youngest athletes and Splash & Dash swim-run races for kids seven and up.
Children aged 7 to 10 will swim 100 meters and run a 1K, while those aged 11 to 15 will swim 200 meters and run a 2K.
There’s plenty of fun for those who don’t race too. This year, Boston sports teams are showing up for the kids with the Boston Red Sox Mobile Batting Cage, the Boston Bruins B-Fit Zone, the New England Revolution featuring Slyde the Mascot & inflatable kicking challenge, the Boston Legacy Soccer inflatable goal challenge, and a Boston Common Golf mobile simulator.
The event, which will run until 5:30 p.m., will also include a Boston Harbor Now interactive booth, and various games, prizes, and surprises while a live DJ plays kid-friendly music.
