The Boston Licensing Board on Thursday awarded a “community space” liquor license to Sorrel & Lime, 986 Blue Hill Ave.
This type of liquor license, among the 225 new ones the state agreed in 2024 to let Boston dole out, is meant for facilities that do more than just serve food.
Sorrel & Lime, which opened earlier this year, is a “Caribbean-inspired modern event space,” that will host everything from its own “curated” events to weddings, one of its co-owners, Marlon Benjamin, told the licensing board at a hearing earlier this year.
The license application now goes to the state Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission for its approval.
Sorrel & Lime opened earlier this year in the space that formerly housed the Island Pride Restaurant and Banquet Hall, with a capacity for 168 people.
In addition to the liquor license, the facility had earlier won a city Supporting Pandemic Affected Community Enterprises grant to renovate the space.
