Rockland Trust has launched its 17th annual Reading Makes Cent$ program, a reading and financial literacy initiative for students across the bank’s network of 124 branches throughout Massachusetts. Running through Aug. 31, the program allows students to earn money by tracking their summer reading in a journal and drawing a picture or writing about the books they read. Students have until Sept. 15 to open their account or have it credited.
“It’s never too early to start building strong financial habits, and what better way than through summer reading?”, said Margaret McCarthy, chief retail banking officer at Rockland Trust. “Reading Makes Cent$ has become a summer tradition that allows us to show up for our communities in a meaningful and memorable way.
The program introduces children to goal setting and saving using a fun rewards system. It also provides our colleagues with opportunities to connect with local students and plant early seeds of financial confidence.”
Students entering grades 1-8 in the fall of 2025 can take part in the program. Participants, and a parent or guardian, can download a Reading Makes Cent$ Journal from RocklandTrust.com/read or pick up a journal at one of the bank’s local branches, including Dorchester Lower Mills, Codman Square, Gallivan Boulevard, and Andrew Square.
