A state agency has included a roof restoration project at the Mildred Avenue K-8 School in Mattapan on a list of approved 2025 Accelerated Repair Program (ARP) funding, according to a statement from BPS.
“The school’s roof was installed in 2002 and has reached the 20-year service life threshold, qualifying it for ARP consideration,” the statement said. The project will now move forward to a feasibility study phase to assess the roof’s condition and determine the appropriate cost and scope of restoration or replacement.
The Mattapan project is one of eight fix-up projects in Boston — and 93 across the state—that were approved by the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) at its Oct. 29 meeting.
The program is meant to provide funding to existing, structurally sound schools needing major repairs of roofs, windows/doors, and heat pump conversions.
BPS officials are hoping for more good news at the December MSBA meeting, at which a decision on a proposed $750 million rebuild of Madison Park Technical Vocational High School is on the agenda.
Mayor Wu and BPS Supt. Mary Skipper announced the intention to submit a Statement of Interest to the MSBA for the Madison Park project last February. In assertion to that bid, BPS was invited into the “core project” program in December 2024 for the renovation/rebuild of the Ruth Batson Academy on Columbia Point, formerly known as the BCLA/McCormack 7-12.
