Boston firefighters responded to 20 Normandy St., between Intervale Street and Lawrence Avenue, for what turned into a three-alarm fire around 8 p.m. on Friday.

The Boston Fire Department reports the fire broke through the roof of the house before it was brought under control.

The department reports no injuries – firefighters had to exercise extra caution since the water they were using froze on the ground – and that the building’s one resident was not home at the time.

The department reports the 80 firefighters who responded used 1,000 feet of hose, dozens of bottles of air and numerous ladders as they successfully fought to keep the fire from spreading to adjoining homes.
