Mayor Wu and her supporters rolled into the New Year and Monday’s inauguration at Chez Vous roller rink in Dorchester with a free skating and pizza party on Sat., Jan. 2. The event was part of a series of events by the Wu campaign team to celebrate the inaugural of her second term in a variety of locations beyond Monday’s official event at Symphony Hall.
“We wanted to make sure this wasn’t just about a fancy swearing-in ceremony downtown, but that throughout the neighborhoods, families of every generation could come together and share in the excitement of what it means to build a community that will be the example that the country needs,” Wu said.
“We are making good progress when it comes to building a city that is safe, beautiful, and welcoming, but times are really challenging now, and we’re reminded of every new headline that comes down from the federal government or around the world. We have to double-down on who we are as a community.”
The mayor highlighted the morning by putting on roller skates and doing a lap with her almost one-year-old daughter, Mira, who seemed to love being on skates. While making laps around the historic Chez Vous loop, she greeted constituents and enjoyed skating with the many children who were enjoying the morning.
