Players Coalition hosts DA candidates' forum at Lilla G. Frederick Pilot Middle School

Tuesday, June 19, 2018

Players Coalition will host a community forum with Suffolk County district attorney candidates on June 19 to discuss the critical need for criminal justice reform and policies that can be implemented at the local level to create a fairer justice system and improve public safety in Massachusetts. The forum is scheduled for 6:30 pm on Tuesday, June 19th, 2018 and will be moderated by Players Coalition members and New England Patriots players Devin McCourty, Jason McCourty and Matt Slater.

This forum is the latest in the “Launching Justice: Conversations with District Attorney Candidates” series hosted by the Players Coalition across the country.

Statement from Devin McCourty, Two-Time Super Bowl Champion – New England Patriots 2x Pro-Bowl Safety / Players Coalition Chair, Education & Economic Advancement:

“Our country is addicted to mass incarceration, and it hasn’t improved public safety or created better outcomes. Instead, it is destroying entire communities — most often communities of color. We need to elect prosecutors who are going to work with the people they represent to create a fairer justice system that works for everyone.”

Statement from Matt Slater, Two-Time Super Bowl Champion / New England Patriots 7x Pro-Bowl Wide Receiver:
“Local district attorneys are on the front lines of the criminal justice system. It is crucial that they act as unbiased professionals as they decide what cases to charge, who gets a second chance, and whether to pursue a modest sentence or one that could send someone away for the rest of their life. That’s why we need to know exactly where these candidates stand.”

The players will moderate a discussion with the local candidates on bail reform, police accountability, drug reform and juvenile justice, among other topics.

Additional forums hosted by prominent Players Coalition members in June include 2018 Super Bowl Champion and Philadelphia Eagles player Chris Long in St. Louis (June 20) and 2015 Super Bowl Champion, Baltimore Ravens player and Players Coalition Co-Founder Anquan Boldin, and current Ravens player Carl Davis in PG County, Maryland (June 14). Previously, Players Coalition Co-Founder Malcolm Jenkins, Doug Baldwin, Richard Sherman and Johnson Bademosi hosted forums in May in Oakland and Sacramento.
