'Run to Home Base’ a winning hit

The Red Sox and Mass General Hospital are sponsoring the “Run to Home Base,” a 9k run to benefit veterans and their families, on May 20 at Fenway Park, and all participants will finish up by crossing home plate in the historic ball yard.

Local runners include Sgt. James Christopher and his wife Michele, Sgt. Patrick Callahan and his wife Jillian, Sgt. Brendan Murphy, Sgt. Dan Magoon, and Michael Christopher. Says James Christopher, a veteran of two tours in Iraq: “The military has seen a sharp rise in the number of people returning home suffering from post-traumatic-stress-disorder, and traumatic brain injuries.”

The Christophers and friends will run to support the Massachusetts Iraq and Afghanistan Fallen Heroes Memorial Fund. There will be fundraiser tonight (May 3) at Fenway Park from 7-11.

The Reporter newspapers enthusiastically support the “Run to Home Base.”
