Special Events Help End Summer Program

The Club concluded its Summer program with two very special off-site events for our members – Camp Northbound and the Disney for Kids trip. Camp Northbound returned for its 4th year, bringing 150 members to the outdoors of Bridgton, Maine for a one-week overnight camping experience. Many thanks to the Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation and the leadership team from Camp Micah for making this trip possible. The following week, 87 youth joined 13 chaperones on our 18th Annual Disney for Kids trip which saw these selected members attend theme parks over a five-day period. Once again the trip was a tremendous success and our thanks goes out to Board Member, Don Rodman and the Rodman Ride for Kids for making the opportunity possible. For information on upcoming special events please contact VP of Programming, Mike Joyce at (617) 288-7120, ext. 2110.

Rodman Ride For Kids Event Approaching

The Boys and Girls Club, along with other collaborating youth serving agencies, will be participating in the approaching Rodman Ride for Kids. The Ride is a 25, 50 or 100 mile bike ride through the towns of Southeastern, Massachusetts which is scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 26th. As the event approaches, the Boys and Girls Club is actively seeking teams of riders (5 riders constitute a team), individual riders, sponsors and volunteers. 100% of all funds raised go directly to the agencies. In addition, funds raised from our sponsors and riders will be matched with a 15% grant through the Ride. Last year’s event was a tremendous success and a fun day for everyone involved. Anyone interested in participating in the event, or gaining more information, should contact Director of Resource Development, Kip Parker at ext. 1130.

Summer Job Programs Conclude

In late August participants in our various employment positions through the Career Launch program concluded their summer job experience. Thanks to valued partnerships with the Boston Youth Fund, the Boston Private Industry Council and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholars program, teen members were placed in positions on-site at our three service locations. In all, over 110 teen members were part of the Career Launch program this summer. We offer a special thanks to all of the organizations who stepped forward to provide these positions for our deserving teen members. For teens seeking school-year positions within the Boys and Girls Club and the local business community, Club staff will be on hand to assist with resumes, applications and interviews during the Fall session of the Career Launch program. Look for classes to begin in September/October. For information on any of our upcoming Fall programs for teens please contact Teen Directors, Xiomara Alicea or Tome’ Andrade at ext. 1422.
