Dorchester man charged with ‘lewdness’ after incident at Lower Mills Library

A Dorchester man was arrested and charged with open and gross lewdness last Thursday after he allegedly exposed himself to a young girl inside the Lower Mills Library. Boston Police were called to the library branch on Richmond Street just after 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 10 after a 12 year-old patron told library staff that she saw an older man standing in the doorway of the ladies’ bathroom while she was in it. The girl told police that the suspect was touching his genitals.

The suspect — Imtiaz Mursalin— was arrested at his nearby home on Richmond Street. According to a Boston Police report, the victim and librarian “were advised to contact the police if there are further incidents with the suspect.” The library is a popular destination for young students after school.

Mursalin was arraigned at Dorchester District Court on Monday and was released on $300 bail. Judge Shannon Frison ordered the defendant to stay away from all children under 17 and all public libraries while the case is pending, according to District Attorney Dan Conley’s office. Mursalin is due back in Dorchester court on Jan. 4.

In a separate incident, the Lower Mills library was the scene of an apparent break-in last weekend. Boston Police were called to the library after staff discovered that some property had been stolen, furniture damaged and lockers ransacked. The library’s alarm had been activated over the weekend (Nov. 5-6), according to a BPD report.
