Everett man charged with two holdups of food drivers; second suspect sought

An Everett man well known to police was arrested on charges he helped hold up two food-delivery drivers in Dorchester after police began to track him down thanks to the GPS that was in the iPhone he allegedly took from one of them.

Deonte P. Curry, 20, was arraigned Thursday in Dorchester District Court on two counts of armed robbery for holdups on Dec. 19 and 23 at 110 Monsignor Lydon Way, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports. Dorchester District Court Judge Robert Tochka set bail at $50,000.

According to the DA's office, Curry and an as yet uncaptured accomplice robbed a Domino's delivery man around 2:20 p.m. on the 19th and a Currach Bistro and Pizza driver around 1:45 p.m. on the 23rd. In both cases, the two took the drivers' money, phones and the food they'd ordered.

In the second case, the drive enabled the GPS on his phone, which led police to Nadia's, an electronics store on Washington Street in Dorchester. There, an employee told police he'd purchased the phone for $50 about 45 minutes after the robbery, the DA's office reports, adding he also told police he had video of the transaction.

Detectives immediately recognized Curry, "whom they recognized from multiple past encounters." The victim IDed the phone by detailing some of the contact info on it and IDed Curry through a photo array that included his photos, the DA's office says.

The hunt for the second robber continues, the DA's office reports.
