Three die in Morrissey Boulevard crash

A car slammed into a bridge abutment on Morrissey Boulevard near Tenean and Freeport streets around 4:30 a.m. on Monday, killing three occupants, Massachusetts State Police report. NECN reports the car rolled over before hitting the abutment.

The accident happened at a curve in the northbound roadway near a Dunkin' Donuts, just across from the intersection with Popes Hill Street. The Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports two men, 19 and 20, were pronounced dead at the scene. The third victim, a 19-year-old woman, was extricated from the remains of the car with the Jaws of Life, but was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Morrissey Boulevard was shut as police investigated the fatal crash; and reopened for traffic about 9 a.m.
