The Boston Police Department says a man firing a gun from a car outside a party on Willowwood St. around 1:50 a.m. on Sunday turned his gun on arriving officers, who returned fire, fatally wounding him.

In a statement, police say: "Witnesses still on scene at a party told officers a male had a firearm and was shooting. Officers approached the suspect who was in his motor vehicle. During the confrontation, the suspect fired at officers, who returned fire. The suspect was shot and was pronounced deceased at Boston Medical Center."

The Boston Police Internal Affairs Unit and the Suffolk County District Attorney's office are investigating the shooting.
