Charlotte Golar Richie, a Dorchester Democrat who ran for mayor in 2013, will not make a bid for statewide office this year, she told supporters via an email on Saturday. A third place finisher in the 12-way mayoral primary, she had been considering a run for a state office.

“My supporters, many of you, who are receiving this email today, have reached out to ask me to consider running for State Treasurer and/or Lieutenant Governor – and I have given the subject serious thought,” she wrote. “However, I’ve decided that statewide office is not the right opportunity for me to pursue at this time.”

Reports of Golar Richie’s interest in the two offices surfaced last month, when statewide races were well underway. Like any latecomer, she would have faced a tough climb to a spot on the ballot as several deadlines draw close.

Nomination signatures gathered by seekers of statewide office and their volunteers are due on May 6. And with the caucuses over, any tardy Democrat hoping to get into the June convention in Worcester would have to get signatures from hundreds of delegates. Opportunities to lock up the support of some donors, state lawmakers, and super-activists within the party have passed by.

In her message, Golar Richie acknowledged that it had been a while since she’d been in touch “as I’ve been focused on closing out the administrative and financial obligations related to last year’s campaign.” Public service is in her DNA, she added, pointing to her service in the nonprofit sector, as a Dorchester state representative, and her work within the administrations of Gov. Deval Patrick and Mayor Thomas Menino.

But reports of her interest in statewide office had taken on a life of their own, she contended, and the email was her chance to clear the air. Which was probably a good idea, since by Friday wild (and incorrect) rumors had started circulating saying that she had turned her attention to running for attorney general.

On Tuesday, her attention was on the seat she once held: She was spotted making phone calls for her friend Karen Charles Peterson, a Patrick administration official who was running in the special election for the Fifth Suffolk House seat. That bid fell short, but Charles Peterson kept the door open to a run for the same seat in the fall, during regularly scheduled elections.

For now, at least, it seems Golar Richie will be sticking to consulting. The Tufts Health Plan Foundation last week announced that she had joined its board of directors and that she will be counseling them on grants and strategy. “Charlotte is a proven leader who knows our Massachusetts communities and has strong ties to diverse constituencies,” Thomas P. O’Neill III, chairman of the Tufts Health Plan Foundation board and a former lieutenant governor, said in a statement. “Her experience in public service and civic engagement will be invaluable to our board as the foundation embarks on its sixth year focusing on healthy aging.”

Lynch: Congress should probe the Todashev killing
 Congressman Stephen Lynch told NECN’s Jim Braude this week that Congress should launch its own investigation into the death of a Chechen man, Ibragim Todashev, who was fatally shot last year in Orlando by an FBI agent while being questioned by law enforcement, including two Massachusetts state troopers. Todashev was considered a suspect in a triple murder in Waltham that has also been linked to Boston Marathon bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev.

 “I’m highly suspect of what went on with Todashev,” Lynch told Braude on his “Broadside” program on Monday. There were three or four different explanations of what happened in that interview. I actually think that we, at a congressional level, should order a special investigation to look at that top down. Certainly, it is worthy of further investigation,” Lynch said, adding that a congressional probe could overlap with one being done by Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley.
