Anita Fearon, a 25-year-old Boston resident, is better known to the millions who watch NBC’s hit singing competition show “The Voice” as Anita Antoinette. She reached the show’s Top 10 on Tuesday night after performing Bob Marley’s “The Redemption Song.”

In an interview last month with Channel 7, Fearon called Dorchester and Jamaica Plain home. “The first place I ever came when I got off the plane from Jamaica was Dorchester. It was the first place I ever saw snow,” Fearon said in the interview.

The daughter of Reggae icon Clinton Fearon, Anita immigrated with her family from Jamaica in 1996. They first settled in South Boston before moving to New Britain, Connecticut, according to her website biography.

A 2012 graduate of the Berklee College of Music in 2012 with a professional music and voice major and an English minor, Fearon auditioned for “The Voice” two years ago, in its third season, but with little success.

On her website, she describes her music is a “unique take on the reggae tradition, incorporating elements of jazz, blues, funk and soul to create a musical hybrid that races the mind and lifts the spirit” and notes that she is working on her debut album.

In the final “live performance” phase of “The Voice, Fearon and the remaining contestants will compete on a live broadcast while the television audience votes for their favorites. After that, the three performers with the lowest vote totals will perform songs representing why they should remain in the competition while fans respond via Twitter using the hashtag #VoiceSave along with the artist’s name. The two singers with the lowest number of votes will be sent home each week.

“The Voice” airs Monday and Tuesday nights on NBC at 8 p.m. EST.
