• Mayor Walsh’s Movie Night at Dorchester’s Town Field at dusk with Despicable Me 2.

• Free movie under the stars at DCR’s Pope John Paul II Park on Thursdays through August 27. All movies begin at sundown. This evening’s feature is Guardians of the Galaxy.

Saturday (29th)
– Dorchester Beach Festival will be held from 2-9 p.m. at Malibu and Savin Hill beaches. Family focus from 2- 5p.m. with exhibits from New England Aquarium and Zoo New England, face painting arts and crafts by DotArt and more. Wider appeal, more adult-focus from 5 – 9 p.m. with live music and food trucks.

• Caribbean Carnival Parade starts at 12 p.m. at Martin Luther King Blvd. and Warren St. in Roxbury to Franklin Park at Blue Hill Avenue.

Sunday (30th)
– The David Martins Peace Foundation will host its first annual Ball for Life basketball tournament to honor the victims of gun violence at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Dorchester from 1-4 p.m. This tournament will also serve as fundraiser for the first David Martins Peace Scholarship Award. All Players receive an official Ball4Life T-shirt. Families are welcomed. All players must be 18 years old and up. See davidmartinspeace.org for more info.

Tuesday (1st)
– Irish Pastoral Center sponsors Dorchester Immigration & Legal Clinic at the Banshee Bar, 934 Dorchester Ave., Dorchester at 6:30 p.m.

Saturday (5th)
– City of Boston’s Poet Laureate visits the Dudley Branch Library at 2 p.m. This fall,Danielle Legros Georges will meet and engage with aspiring and practicing poets. Interested participants can bring examples of their work for discussion. 65 Warren St. Roxbury.

Coming Up

Dot Park Classic Car Show, Family Day on Sept. 13. The third annual Dorchester Park Classic Car Show and Family Fun Day will be held on Sunday, September 13. The car show event will begin at 10 a.m. the smaller ball field at the Adams Street entrance to the park and ends at 2 p.m. The Family Fun Day goes from 12 to 4 p.m.on the larger ball field in the upper park. Walk up the path from the cars to the back of the park to enjoy food trucks, entertainment, music, horse-drawn carriage rides, facilities, face painting, balloons, puppets and games for the kids. BC High to host school fair – Boston College High School hosts a school fair from noon to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 13. Families will have the opportunity to meet middle and high school representatives from institutions throughout Massachusetts. Over 30 middle and high schools will be in attendance including Catholic, independent, public, single-gender, co-ed, boarding, day, large, and small schools.
